Cadillac Increases Theft-Prevention Measures for Escalade

Here at Vaden Chevrolet Cadillac, we know that the Escalade is one of the most highly-desired vehicles on our lot. Not surprisingly, we're not the only ones who love the SUV - according to a report released late last year, the Escalade is one of the most stolen cars in America, too.
What's an automaker to do with such a coveted vehicle? There's no way Cadillac will take away any of the features that define the luxury SUV, instead, they've announced plans to add to the list. More specifically, by enhancing the security of the Escalade, Cadillac wants to assure drivers that even though it's easy to love, the SUV will be difficult to steal.
According to Bill Biondo, GM's Global Leader for Vehicle Theft Prevention, "The goal is to make the Escalade a very difficult target for thieves without any added inconvenience for customers. The new systems work in the background and few people realize they are there, but they are strong added protections."1
To break this down a bit more, new Escalade models will feature a PASS Key 3+, a sophisticated encryption system for the key, key cylinder, and ignition; a tough steering column-lock system that makes it impossible to maneuver the vehicle onto a flatbed; an inclination sensor that sets off an alarm if the angle of the vehicle changes (like if the car gets towed or put on a flatbed); a shock sensor that goes off in case of 'vehicle shock' like a broken window; and finally, a wheel lock system that prevents tire/wheel theft.
Biondo says of these enhancments, "Combined, these technologies comprise one of the most-extensive sets of theft-deterrent measure available for this type of vehicle and meet or exceed security specifications among global vehicle security analysts."2 Joe Wehrle, Present and CEO of the National Insurance Crime Bureau, agrees, saying, "These types of innovative theft prevention technologies are a significant step in helping to reduce vehicle thefts."3
Automakers like Cadillac continue to work to make their cars the safest on the road, and the most secure on busy streets, parking lots, and while they're parked in your driveway.
