Chevrolet Shares Stories of Wounded Vets

Chevrolet does more than honor GM discounts on vehicles for our nation's troops. To pay tribute to the brave men and women who serve our country and celebrate the annual Army-Navy football game presented by USAA, Chevy has decided to tell a story. Specifically, they want to tell the story of the Achilles Freedom Team of Wounded Veterans at the Detroit Free Press/Talmer Bank Marathon.
Meet Corporal Justin Gaetner, USM. A handsome young man featured in the story, Gaetner has two prosthetics above the knees. Pushing beyond physical and emotional turmoil, he is competing in the race with a handcycle. He is not alone, either. There are many other wounded veterans who plan to compete, evidencing inspirational spirit, ambition and tenacity. While each has a different story, there is common line connecting them all, which Chevrolet highlights in their presentation. That is courage.
According to Chevy, brave, humble men such as Gaetner are known as comebacks. This is the reason they ride in the race and also the reason Chevy decided to bring them to Detroit, MI. Detroit is, after all, known for enduring hard times and having the strength to get back up again, even after taking a pretty hard fall. Pardon all of the puns.
This isn't Chevy's first project supporting Achilles Freedom Team of Wounded Soldiers. Nor is it their first initiative to help support U.S. troops. About two years ago, Chevy began collaborating with Cell Phones for Soldiers (dedicated to helping troops call home so that they can hear the voices of loved ones and vice versa) as well as the Travis Manion Foundation (committed to helping U.S. veterans and the families of fallen veterans). However, the American automaker felt those efforts were not enough. That's when Chevy got involved with Achilles Freedom Team of Wounded Soldiers. To help the team, Chevy donated a new Silverado Heavy Duty pickup truck and aired a national TV ad, during the annual Army/Navy football game, to honor marathon participants.
